The UNSC Army is tasked to defend UEG colony worlds from hostile incursion, foreign and domestic, and the long-term occupation of neutral or enemy territory. As a result, the UNSC Army is tasked to organize, train and maintain amphibious, land and airborne forces capable of carrying out this operations viligantly. Their ability to organize and respond to hostile incursion is essential for the stability and defence of any world in the UEG, as they defend both military and civilian installations and maintain critical ground-based communications infrastructure essential to maintain contact with the rest of human controlled space. The UNSC Army maintains multiple infantry, airborne and armoured divisions. Additionally, the UNSC Army has units that fall under UNICOM's Special Warfare Command (SPECWARCOM), and has two known special operations units, the Army Rangers and Airborne Pathfinders. Additionally, SPARTAN task forces have been known to serve under the operational authority of the UNSC Army, with NOBLE Team being the most notable unit to do so.
The UNSC Army also provides several peacetime roles, such as engineers, technicians, builders and designers on civil and public works projects, and providing support for other UNSC deployments.
